Changes and urban transformations in Zaragoza, after the “Expo” of 2008
Abstract
The International Exhibition of Zaragoza held in 2008, under the motto Water and Sustainable Development, was an event that favored the development of a city with great potential, Allowing to generate a substantial growth, both economic and social, in the autonomous capital and in the whole of the Community of Aragon. In this article we approach the reality of change in the models of growth and urban development experienced by the city of Zaragoza after the celebration of the International Exhibition, analyzing the transformations experienced in both their physical and human environment, natural and economic, arising from the enormous mobilization of resources, through which the infrastructures of the city were improved -both in the own enclosure as in its areas of influence and nearer surroundings- thus promoting new urban projects and implementing good practices in environmental matters, fundamentally, in water management and conservation and sustainable development.
