Methane emissions from municipal solid waste in Cuba
Abstract
In this paper are determined the methane emissions derived from Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management in Cuba in the period 1990-2010. For this objective, were used methods provided in “2006 IpCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories”, especially the IpCC Waste Model, and also elements from the “GHG protocol Corporate Standard” (WrI-WbCSD, 2004). according to the results obtained, the net methane emissions from final MSW disposition had a general trend to the increase, with a period of decrease between 1992 and 1996 (more critical years of the economic crisis that suffered the Country in the nineties). Methane emissions generated from compost preparation using MSW, and from methane destruction in flares resulted, respectively, low and not significant.Downloads
