El Sureste en la Edad Media
Abstract
The History of the SouthEast in the Middle Ages, andespecially the History of the region of Murcia, comprises two large stages which, at the same time, correspond to those which mark the historical development of the rest of the peninsular territories regardiess of their duration. The first stage is that under Muslim control which runs between the year 712, when the Muslim control was established and later on the so-called «Teodomiro’s Pact» was signed, and the year 1243 when the «Alcaraz Pact» took place whereby the Muslim kingdom of Murcia becomes a Castilian protectorate, turned later on into a controlling area after the failure of the Mudejar revolt between 1264-1266. The second stage runs from 1243 up to the end of Medieval times, and that is the stage under Christian control, when the «castilianisation» of the territory or Murcia and its integration into the political-institutional gear of the Crowm of Castille takes place. Under either stage the territory of Murcia would keep its peculiarities and would become a cradie for resistence revolts both against the power of Córdoba and against the Almoravides and Almohades — let’s just mention Ibn Mardanish or Ibn Hud —, and sometimes there would also be revolts against the Castilian king, although in this case they were never secessionist revolts, but rather a protest against the violation of their jurisdiction and privileges by the Castilian Crown.Downloads
