Abstract

The article deals with the interaction society-nature through the history of mankind and how this led to the present environmental crisis that became evident through the contradictions and limitations of the prevailing models of development, which at the same time led to the concept of sustainable development stated in the Brundtland Report in 1987. Furthermore, in addition to the study of the evolution of the technical relations between society and nature, the ideas of Classical Thermodynamics, the basis of the General Theory of Systems and the analysis of the flaws in the concept of sustainable development stated in the above mentioned report, the article offers a new insight of sustainable development from a dialectic, systemic and thermodynamic point of view that takes into account the shortcomings and contradictions that came into view as the concept evolved. Key words: Society, nature, sustainability, development
