Abstract

Mean HP radiopropagation parameters obtained with raytracing tecimiques are usually determined by model or experimental average electron density proflíes for a given time and location. In this paper the concept of «worst cases» is introduced to define extreme conditions of propagation, using series of individual profiles for a given hour and season and cumulative distributions for key profile parameters. «Worst case» conditions of radiopropagation for short distance links have been characterised by applying a 20 raytracing program to hourly digisonde profiles obtained at El Arenosillo in dic period 1993-1997. Spherically stratified ionosphere has been assumed in the calculations. The results show the possibility of Física de la Tierra 337 2000, 12, 337-351 G, Miró y otros Análisis de situaciones extremas para la caracterización del canal... transmitting even in the «worst cases» during the 8:00 IJT-l8:00 UT hours interval.
