Abstract

This contribution is a presentation of the state of the art of the current tendencies in the study of the earthquake occurrence and the possibilities of its prediction. The physical framework of the earthquake occurrence is that of far from equilibrium systems, and the possibilities of prediction (probabilistic forecasting) rely on the correct identification of the precursory activity and a rigorous analysis of its evolution.
