Abstract

The paper deals with the Polish reception of Don Quixote and the influence which the Cervantes’ work exerted on culture and public life in Poland. Discussing various examples of the quixotic myth in different forms of literary and artistic expression, particularly in travel books, the author argues that topicality of this motive and popularity of Quixote itself may be treated as an index of both individual and collective behaviours in the last two centuries of Polish history, as well as today.
