Abstract
This article analyses the historical background that surrounds the conversion of the last pagan Slavonic tribes to Christianity in three areas: Polabia (marked by the defeat of Rethra in 1068), Pomerania (converted by Otto of Bamberg) and Rügen (last shelter of paganism until the falling of Arkona in 1168). Despite the control of the pagan priests over political decisions, they were not able to resist the pressure of the Christian states (Germany, Denmark, Poland) and the betrayal of local princes who found in Christianity an ally to strengthen their power.Downloads
