Abstract

It is usual to take for granted that the ethnonim Veneti as trasmited by classical authors can be identified with Protoslavs. Until now it was believed that the oldest reference to such ethnonim was found in Pliny the Elder (1st century A.D.). 1 will demonstrate that, with a subtle poetic artifice, Propertius (1st century B.C.) make reference to Veneti = Protoslavs in relationship with the river Hypanis = Southem Bug.
