The paper deals with representalion of modem city in The Man in the Street (1928) by Slovak prose wnter van Horváth. Adistinction is made between descriptive and stryamdibtioonlicofaSsploevcatsk loitef rtahtiusrer.epresentation, as well as between it and the ruralist tradition of Slovak literature.
