Abstract

In this paper, the author focuses on the type of word order in Slovak sentence which is syntagmatically conditioned. He conceives the word order as a complex phenomenon. To delimit syntagmatical word order, he takes as his starting point the word and its grammatical and semantic collocability. The author concludes that constant word order exists in our mind in the form of separate word collocations, and this word order is reflected as the obligatory or at least usual word order in the syntagm or even in the sentence.
