New Ibero-Roman sculpture from the the oppidum of Las Atalayuelas (Fuerte del Rey, Jaén)
Abstract
We publish a fragmentary high-relief sculpture, part of an armed figure –probably a horseman- depicted at approximately half-lifesize scale. He was almost certainly a horseman. He carries a lorica hamata and a big round shield. It was part of R. Marsal’s Collection, and the provenance is recorded as “Las Atalayuelas” (Fuerte del Rey, Jaén). It can be dated to the Late Iberian/Roman Republican period.
