Abstract
The doxastic form creo can express propositional values or other values with a modal nature such as epistemology or opinion. Among them, literature traditionally associates opinion with a reinforcing function in confrontational contexts prone to the appearance of intensification (e.g. parliamentary debates). However, the limits of the domain have not been explored yet. This paper looks into what happens with the opinion value of creo in conversational corpus to systematize its behavior from a cognitive perspective. The analysis observes that the construction of creo determines its semantic value in more than 20 % of the cases and that other formal aspects explain more than 50 % of its pragmatic functions. Thus, the results suggest that determining these formal circumstances surrounding the appearance of creo provides more information about the domain of opinion than the genre itself.
