Between Paper Archives and the Stone Archive: Drawing as a Critical Tool
Abstract
The study focuses on the eighteenth-century building history of the church of San Filippo Neri in Turin, designed by Filippo Juvarra and constructed in several phases between 1732 and the late nineteenth century. The research combines archival investigation, bibliographic analysis, and direct architectural survey to reconstruct the sequence of construction campaigns that followed the collapse of the previous church in 1714. Because documentary sources for the eighteenth-century phases are fragmentary, the survey of the existing structure—particularly the attic and subterranean levels—played a central role in identifying building phases, structural discontinuities, and traces of construction practices.
