Abstract

Historically, Islam has suffered the stigma of being uncompatible with democracy. Neverthless, these caveats should not be attributed to Islam itself but the Arabic heritage. Central Asian Islam has some special elements that creates a different kind of Islam which is not only liberal and moderated but also compatible with democracy. Islam in Central Asia embodies some particular characteristics such as Hanafism, Sufism or Jadidism that may show the World that Islam and democracy are completely compatible.
