UNASUR y la proyección del Consejo de Seguridad

Abstract

The possibility of starting a process of state-level integration in the field of defense and security, is an interesting aspect to analyze, as defense and internal security have always been considered as privative elements of the Nation-State in the exercise of its sovereignty, and as we know, every process of integration, to a greater or lesser extent, implies a limitation of this exercise. Nevertheless, due to the new security threats that globalization presents to us, a hemispheric process of integration in defense and security is seen as necessary. In this sense, the South American Defense Council, recently created within the framework of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), is a novel project that can represent a first step to consolidate the integration in these subjects and at the same time strengthen the region as a political bloc.
