Las relaciones Báltico-Cáucaso Sur: el caso de Lituania-Georgia

Abstract

The transformations that have been taking place in the former Soviet find a particularly complex and tense scenario in the South Caucasus, as the Russo-Georgian war of August 2008 showed. The strategic panorama has an explanation in the Atlantic aspirations (and drive towards NATO) of Georgia that clash with Russian interests, and the economic importance of the South Caucasic energy gateway as an alternative route for obtaining resources from the Caspian Sea. Baltic and South Caucasic countries have deepened their cooperative relations since 2004, in particular between Lithuania and Georgia, representing a special case of promotion of the Euro-Atlantic link.
