The "Trilogy" of Beckett as the living expression of “contemporary aporia”
Abstract
This article is based on Ludwig Schajowicz’s characterization of Samuel Beckett as the living expression of “contemporary aporia”, focusing on Trilogy, the narrative trilogy published by Beckett in French between 1951 and 1953, and which he would later translate into English. The aim of this article is to clarify what Schajowicz means by “contemporary aporia” and its consequences in order to understand contemporary language and literature, using Julia Kristeva’s, Jacques Lacan’s, Jacques Derrida’s and Felipe Martínez Marzoa’s theoretical approaches.
