Maggottherapy. A systematic review on evidence-based Medicine
Abstract
The treatment of ulcers (vascular, diabetic) and chronic wounds in lower extremities is one of the most complex because multiple factors take part, that is why various wound healing techniques and numerous types of wound dressings exist. The objective of this study is to evaluate, on the basis of the present scientific evidence, the efficacy of special dressings that use fly larvae, and are not well known. A systematic review of medical literature in different directories and data bases was performed. Metaanalysis of original articles was made. It is demonstrated the efficacy of the therapy with larvae in three actions: wound debridement, antibacterial activity and stimulation of the healing.Downloads
