Abstract

In 1627, french state official Gabriel Naudé wrote a text entitled Advis pour dresser une bibliothèque. The treatise, currently considered a foundational work in library science, brings to light certain ideas linked to two conceptions about scholarly knowledge: encyclopaedics (Enzyklopädistik) and skepticism. This paper examines the philosophical affinities presented by both epistemological phenomena throughout Naudé’s text, within the frame of french’s absolutism from 17th century.
