The problem of unveiling the sacred through the divine: a pragmatist dialogue with María Zambrano

Keywords: appearance-reality, the divine, the sacred, pragmatism, poetic reason, María Zambrano

Abstract

This paper analyzes the link María Zambrano establishes between the sacred, the divine, and human experience through "poetic reason," a concept that seeks an existential and spiritual access to reality. However, from a pragmatist perspective, it is argued that this quest for a hidden transcendental is metaphysical and limiting for contemporary thought. The article proposes that poetry and philosophy should shift their focus toward their practical and contextual utility. Consequently, it advocates for the improvement of our cultural and social practices instead of the pursuit of absolute foundations or transcendentals, emphasizing a more functional and immanent approach to philosophical inquiry.
