Abstract

The present paper aims to show that the mode of synthesis of intensive magnitude is grounded in the transcendnetal notion of infinity, which Kant describes both in the Mathematical Antinomies and in the Transcendental Aesthetics. In order to achieve this goal, an analysis of the passage from the Anticipations of Perception is carried out, where we show in what sense transcendental infinity is presupposed in the syntheis of coalition. Subsequently, we are concerned with showing how in the transcendental approach a sort of paradox of infinity emerges and how this is resolved by Kant in the solution to the Second Antinomy. Finally, in the conclusions we show that the argumentation developed is especially enriched and reinforced in the light of the distinction between potential infinity and actual infinity that Kant proposes in Über Kästners Abhandlungen.
