Republic allegory in the Spanish Civil War

Abstract
Through the iconology method by Erwin Panofsky, it can be proved how the Spanish Republic allegory not only adopted her clothes, attributes and other characteristic features according to the side she represented, but many of these elements were inherited through different goddesses who due to the imposition of the monotheistic religions were being forgotten. Deities such as Demeter, Hispania, Cibeles, Atenea or Maat came back in society thanks to this new Republican Goddess who managed to fill with hope her believers’ hearts.Format
