Catalan nationalism in the Spanish press: the coverage of the newspaper La Libertad during “the plane inclined to the dictatorship”
Abstract
The present research studies the media coverage linked to Catalan nationalism offered by the national newspaper La Libertad. For this purpose, a total of 1.271 copies of the newspaper La Libertad have been analyzed from December 1919 to December 1923. The results obtained show that violence was present from the beginning in the Catalan nationalist movements, as reported by this newspaper, which seems to show an interest in collecting data in a neutral way.
