Journalistic Role Performance and its Hybridization. Analysis on the coverage of Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
Abstract
This comparative study, based on an analysis of journalistic role performance and hybridization, examines five journalistic roles in 1,197 news covering two episodes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (2014 and 2017) in four newspapers: ABC, La Vanguardia, Haaretz, and The New York Times. Through content analysis and statistical hypothesis testing, the interventionist role was identified as the most frequent and central to hybridization, although differences were observed depending on the event and the media outlet. Among the most relevant findings was that the interventionist role showed the most significant and positive correlations with the other roles, confirming its meta-role nature. However, other important role combinations also emerged, including the civic and infotainment roles.
