Stereotypes about Venezuelan inmigration in the Peruvian written press
Abstract
This research presents the stereotypes about Venezuelan immigrants in the Peruvian written press during the last quarter of 2022, when the resident Venezuelan population reached its historical peak. The selected print newspapers were Trome, Ojo, and El Popular, and the digital ones were El Comercio, Trome, and La República, widely read. The research technique employed was content analysis. The results indicate that the stereotypes assigned to Venezuelan immigrants are that of criminals followed by that of victims. Likewise, it is observed that the agenda-setting links citizen insecurity with Venezuelan immigration, while the news framing used is framed within the criminalization of Venezuelan immigrants, turning them into the "other" that threatens security.
