Chilean correspondents in the War of the Pacific (1879–1883)
Abstract
The correspondents sent by the Chilean newspapers were the nexus between the events of the War of the Pacific and the reading population of its chronicles. Much of the chilean public's discussion of the conflict was based on the information contained in his writings, because he found the details of the campaign described from the perspective of the press. The pen of the reporters created new heroes for the republican pantheon and helped to establish archetypes of Peruvians and Bolivians. In addition it allowed its readers to enter into the daily life and intimacy of the conflict.
