Abstract

In recent years, non-fiction books have experienced a decisive boom in the publishing world, and at the same time, a very evident textual and visual evolution, which has positioned them as a higly interesting educational resource. This article analyses the implementation of a didactic intervention based on different non-fiction books on environmental issues in a 6th grade Primary Education classroom in a rural public school. The study considers possible progress in students' knowledge about the environment, the potential of this resource to improve students' informational competence and the motivation to read after using this type of work. The results show how the students focus especially on the non-fiction book's ability to generate curiosity and the possibilities it offers for learning about a specific topic. Furthermore, the progress in knowledge of environmental aspects stands out, while the motivation towards reading this type of book is the item that seems to be least favored after the proposal.
