Trends in scientific production on dependency in the elderly from the perspective of Social Work. Scientific mapping of the period 2006-2023
Abstract
This paper uses a bibliometric methodology to examine research developments and trends with relation to dependency and older adults, taking the WOS database as a reference to identify the most cited studies, the most influential journals and the leading countries and authors in the field. The analysis reveals a significant increase in dependency-related publications since the early 2000s, suggesting a growing academic and practical interest. The paper also highlights the most popular areas of research, such as health and social aspects, as well as other areas of developing interest such as prevention. The implications of these findings for future studies are also discussed, with an emphasis placed on the need for multidisciplinary approaches and the integration of new technologies and analysis methodologies. In summary, this literature review provides a comprehensive overview of the current landscape of dependence research, offering valuable insights for scholars and practitioners interested in this expanding area.
