Homo aquaticus operarius in modern Atlantis: Floating cities as a solution to rising sea and ocean levels due to climate change

Keywords: Floating cities, climate change, sea level rise, non-marine seafarers

Abstract

This paper reflects on the phenomenon of the creation of sustainable floating cities and the use of ships and residential mega-yachts as a response to rising sea and ocean levels as result of climate change. In this context, our hypothetical status as homos aquaticus operarius and the difficulties associated with living and working permanently on maritime installations of different kinds are analysed from a legal point of view.
