El Cerro de los Batallones: un caso práctico de actuación paleontológica de carácter preventivo

Abstract

The July 9th law 10/1998 of Historical Heritage of Autonomous Community of Madrid rules the protection of the Palaeontological Heritage in the Autonomous Community of Madrid. According to this regulation the mining work carried out at the Cerro de los Batallones area (Torrejón de Velasco, Madrid), where is situated the exceptional Miocene vertebrate site of Batallones-1, have been systematically controlled in order to prevent the destruction of new fossiliferous sites. As a result of these actuations four new fossil vertebrate sites have been discovered.
