Abstract

Verbal and visual analysis is specially useful for analyzing semanthic tendencies on media ecosystem, controlled by hyper-visibilty and aesthetical turn. Along this article, we have applied this methodology to study a corpus formed by workplace accidents news. We use theotherical approachs starting at liquid society, semiotics about disaster culture and Prevention of Occupational Risks Law. Our methodology is based on the integration of visual cultural analysis, discourse analysis and semiotics. Simbolic fictions, named images, and predicative images related to cinematographic and catholic imaginaries and melodrama shape that kind of discourse, as well as semantics of fate, prevention, punishment and shame.
