Abstract
The alkaline basaltic magmatism, with its upper chronological limit in the Hettangian, shows the same mineralogical and geochemical compositions in three sectors of the NF of the Iberian Plate (NW of the Iberian Chain, south of the Catalonian Coastal Ranges, and North range of Majorca). In the NW of the Iberian Chain, only the subvolcanic terms are exposed (a few sil s, with great areal development). In the other two seetions, subvolcanic and pyroclastic episodes are represented. The analogy of the compositions, ages and setting characters of this magmatism with that of the north-Pyrenean (CorbiØres) and the French Alps (Ecrins-Pelvoux) domains, allows the identification of an alkaline magmatic provmcc, related to the initial stages of western Tethys, as proposed by many authors (see Azambre & FabriØs, 1989).Downloads
