Abstract

Some thoughts concerning the influence of the fossilization processcs on the paleoccological interpretation of fossil concentrations are proposed. Time-averaging is usually present in these concentrations, but it does not Cuadernos de Geología Ibérica, nY 23. 137-152. Servicio de Publicaciones. Universidad Complutense, Madrid, 1997. 138 J. Martineil invalidate the paleoccological inferences, it only vanes them. The rates and mechanisms of sedimentation and the behaviour of the organisms are factors which collaborate in the mixing of skeletal remains produced in different time intervals. Because of that, the taphonomic information must be acquired when data are interpreted. Only in this way plausible results will be obtained.
