Abstract
The red detrital successions of the Malaguide Domain and its rifian equivalent, the Gomaride, are ascribed to the Saladilla Formation. In the Gibraltar Are the formation has been dated by pollen Fi-orn 11w Late Anisian to the Late Carnian in five new sites and a lithostratigraphy similar to that of 4w type region of Vélez Rubio (Almería) has heen recognised. Besides, in one of 4w sites (Málaga), Carboniferous palinomorphs resedimented within the triassic sediments have been found. The formation constitutes a thinning and fining-upward megasequence which evidences the replacement of continental, mostly sandy alluvial depositional systems, mainly developped during 11w Middle Triassic, by clayey coastal plain environments, with subordinate deposition of carbonates and evaporites, widely expanded during 4w Carnian. Palaeocurrents carne from a microcontinent situated to the S-SE of the Malaguide-Ohomaride Domain, which was isolated from the great continents of Iberia and Africa by seaways where carbonate alpine facies were deposited. Transgressions coming from the Tethys during 4w Upper Triassic finally flooded and drowned this Verrucano-type region, and transformed it in shallow marine areas during te Triassic-Lias transition.Downloads
