Abstract

Three fossils bearing levels are cited in the facies Buntsandstein at the Northern region of Catalanids. The first one is a level with vertebrate footprints. The following icnospecies have been found: Rkvnchosauraides, Chirotherium barthii, etc. Its age is thought to be Upper Scythian or Lower Anisian. This level comes from a subdeltaic paleoenvironment. In the face of it perhaps Anisian age fits better than an Upper Scythian one, because the uppermost sediments of this facies Buntsandstein makes sure a Lower Anisian age. The second level shows fragments of Equise tites and other indeterminate plant remains. Its age is uncertain. The third one brings also fossil plants and can be related to the flora described by ALMERA as soon as 1909, Museo Geológico del Seminario, calle Diputación, 231, Barcelona 08007. * 255 íncluding Vo¡tzia heterophylla, Pecopteris sulziana, Aethophyflum, etc. This list points out a Lower Anisian age. It is associated to green sediments, of ten with malachite. The surface with icnites seems to be lower than others levels. The third level is the upper one and appears about 25 m. from the bottom of dolomitic facies. As a conclusion it can be said that the great part of this facies Buntsandsteiri in this area belongs to Anisian.
