Abstract

At the beginning of the 20th century, the presence of intellectual movements in cinematography was due to the desire of showing a new reality in evolution. That initiative resulted in interesting proposals, brave attempts and multiple renounces, ambitious programmes and practical failures, some excellent results and a great majority of frustrated trials. In that period, we found many of the key factors to understand the subsequent evolution of cinema as synthesis of the previous disciplines and expression of a new sensitivity.
