Dialectics between Text and Visual: Ekphrasis in Video Game Remakes
Abstract
The history of video games can be traced from a literary point of view according to its gradual advance from written text to cinematic and audiovisual techniques. A clear example of this advance can be found in the study of the rhetorical mechanism of ekphrasis or literary description within the video game. With this in mind, several typologies of current video games will be considered according to the degree of text that they decide to keep inside them. The role of remakes and nostalgia in demonstrating the survival or expiration of text within the video game will also be examined as a case study through the case study of Colossal Cave Adventure
