Abstract

This paper reviews the most frequently used definitions, methodologies, and objects of analysis in studies on transmedia narratives based on articles published between 2003 and 2023 in Q1 and Q2 journals in Scopus and Web of Science (N = 114). Meta-research is used as a methodological resource to identify the publications and periods with the most papers, as well as the objects of study, methods, and technologies most used. The results reveal that non-fiction is the field that receives the most attention, even though the first definitions of transmedia were linked to fiction. We also identify the approaches and themes that have not been dealt with in these narratives to guide the development of future research in this field.
