A review of the socio-demographic profile of book readers in Spain: changes and continuities in the 21st century (2010-2024)
Abstract
The present work is a sociodemographic analysis of book readers in Spain during the period 2010–2025, segmented by the main variables that characterise them: gender, age, level of education, occupation, and geographical location. The information provided in this study complements previous studies that addressed this issue up to 2009. It is concluded that the sociodemographic profile has hardly undergone any notable structural changes in terms of gender, age, educational level, occupation, and geographical place of residence, notwithstanding some notable partial changes: higher reading rates among older people, those with only primary education, and residents of certain regions of Spain
