Scientometric for the evaluation of the scientific production: Analysis of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP) in the period 2020-2024, Ecuador

Abstract

Scientific production is an indicator associated with the productive and economic development of a country. Currently, Scientiometric is a tool used to analyze the products generated by science and that allows identifying research trends. The objective of this study was to analyze the scientific production of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP) in the period 2020-2024 to determine its contributions and limitations. Bibliometric analysis, descriptive statistics and correlation were used to analyze the information related to the study period. The results showed that INIAP's research production has increased its scientific quality by focusing on publishing in high visibility and ranking journals. The research area where there is the greatest scientific production is “Productivity Increase”, as well as in the research lines of “Integrated Crop Managent” and “Agricultural Economy, Agroecology, and Climate Change”; themes focused on current problems and that allow to contribute to the promotion of sustainable agriculture. Investment in research has decreased over time, thus it is necessary to generate actions and policies that allow maintaining stable investment to develop agricultural research in the country, with the aim of contributing to the productive and economic development of Ecuador.
