Abstract

Literary Modernism laid out the limits of how to represent the reality from an imaginary standpoint. How the Catalan and Spanish narratives have treated this phenomenon deals with a network of interdependencies with European models, more than with a frame of mutual contacts. Both literatures have faced the crisis of their traditions making experiments with the concept of «literary realism». It is exemplified comparing outstanding works of the main literary streams of the 20th century: vanguards, social realism, and postmodernism.
