Abstract
This article analyzes Eveline Hasler’s historical novel Ibicaba: Das Paradies in den Köpfen (1985) as a commentary on the political debates on nineteenth-century emigration. Transforming historical facts into fiction, Ibicaba contains socio-psychological and philosophical reflections on human rights and mobility, a postcolonial critique of European settlements abroad, as well as a call for a women’s history of migration. Moreover, this article interprets Hasler’s novel as an invitation to question Heimat and identity constructions in today’s globalized world.##submission.format##
