Communitary care experiences in Pamplona: development leys and challenges for its extension

Abstract

Lately the community is starting to position itself as a key actor in care. Its importance is being recognized, while new experiences and organizations which approach care from the communitarian sphere are emerging. This attention to community care is standing in the centre of the debate not only when it comes to the public policy, but also in the academic and social sphere.

The aim of this research is to offer an approach to the experiences with community focus in Pamplona which cover part of care in 0-3 years old, youth and elderly groups. Thus, a mapping of the community care experiences in Pamplona during 2018 was realized, followed by ten case-studies of these experiences through in-depth interviews. The objectives, collectives, potentialities, and limitations that these experiences had in the period 2018-2019 were identified.

Results show a global vision of these experiences, allowing to approach them and determine if they could constitute a social transformation and democratizing care item. It has been proven a significative increase in the number of experiences, as well as an increase in their contents and populational groups. Likewise, results invite to reflect on the management of the community care, the possibility of bonding with the public powers and some issues that affect negatively in their consolidation.
