Abstract

In this paper we focus on the definition of a useful space for the study and debate surrounding civil society. For that, we discuss the issues that have remained open in classical theories and propose as an answer to them the use of Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory as a way to build a space in which the different theories can be put into discussion. This approach is useful as it serves as a way to bridge many of the classical divergences (like the difference between macrosociological and microsociological) as well as serving to put into discussion in a clear manner many of the elements that other theories had handled in an ambiguous way.
