Sociology and History: A Dialogue at the Turn of the Century
Abstract
In this article we will review the relationship between sociology and history to the consolidation of the subfield of historical sociology during the sixties of last century. We will see what themes and theoretical and methodological problems have faced since then and in what context they made sense. Finally, we reflect on the validity of the classical agenda of historical sociology (the historical formation of national states, the processes of modernization and capitalist development or social revolutions) in the current social and political context, to conclude on how, paradoxically, before an idea of questioned modernity, the look of historical sociology can be turned to models of classical sociology.
