Anthropocene: Eco-social risks and global geopolitics: a view from political ecology

Abstract
According to scientists, there are reasons to conclude that we have left behind the Holocene and we are entering into a new geological epoch featured by the human influence on the global planetary system: the Anthropoce. Far from being just a scientific hypothesis, the latter represents a change with deep geopolitical consequences, as it does pose new challenges and eco-social risks for the species as a whole. This paper explores the origins and content of the hypothesis, with the Great Acceleration, paying special attention to its effects on humanity, as well as to its geopolitical implications.
