Abstract
This is an annotated translation of a collection of stories taken from the medieval Japanese anthology Konjaku monogatari-shū (c. 1120), known in Spain as Cuentos de un pasado lejano (Satori 2019). The present work focuses exclusively on the first five chapter-volumes, known as the Tenjiku section, devoted to ancient India. The focus is philological and on the history of Buddhist religion. The selected texts are chosen from the five chapters of the section, and are cross-cutting in nature, serving as a good introduction to this part of the anthology. The main merit of this anthology is the contribution of original multilingual sources, including Pali, Sanskrit, classical Chinese and Japanese.
