Abstract
Cuentos herejes (‘Heretical Tales’) is a collection of fourteen stories by Akutagawa Ryūnosuke that focus primarily on the arrival and persecution of Christianity in Japan during the 16th and 17th centuries. The stories depict the clash between a foreign religion and Japanese culture, exploring ideological conflicts, local reinterpretations and episodes of martyrdom.
