Abstract

Several interpretations had been tried to understand the Janus-faced nature of Pierre Charron: on one hand, a reckless sceptic philosopher; on the other hand, an enthusiastic preacher and apologist of the Catholic faith. This article stands that both characters are ex-pressions of an eclectic intellectual attitude influenced not only by scepticism but by some specific humanist readings of Platonic tradition as well.
